HD290 Throw Distance: Thank you for choosing Knoll projectors! The HD290 is DLP™ projector with 16:9 digital light processing chips to give bright clear images and display movies in a format similar to the one they were filmed in. It can display a wide range of formats from standard TV, extended definition TV through high definition TV. Its all glass lens allows for a wide level amount of zooming (1:1.3). Some of the advances unique to the the HD290 are the new "flat pixel" technology and 10-bit video DACs for noise-free dark scenes and a very high contrast ratio (3000:1). The HD290 projector is designed only for use with 16:9 aspect ratio screens. 4:3 images can safely be displayed on the 16:9 screens. Some screens have moveable screen width curtains that can be controlled by the HD290 screen trigger output. The Knoll CM26 ceiling mount kit is easy to install and swivels for exact placement. It drops the projector about 3" and the projector lens is about 6" from the ceiling. If more of a drop is needed, the CM20+6 extender adds an extra 6" drop. As many CM20+6 can be added as needed. For fine tuning the drop the CM25EX adjustable extender is available. It drops the projector a further 6.75” to 11” (17cm to 28cm). The most frequently asked questions concerning DLP projectors are: How much can the projector be tilted down (when ceiling
mounted) or up (when floor mounted)? Is the width of the 4:3 image the same as the 16:9 image? Projection throw distances are the maximum and minimum horizontal distances from the projector lens to the screen. If the projector is mounted level (this is strongly recommended) the image will drop (ceiling mounted projector) or rise (floor mounted projector). If the projection distances below are not close enough or not far enough, Navitar makes excellent quality after market lens distance adaptors. Click here to go to the Navitar web site. Most movies are filmed in 2.35:1 to 2.40:1 aspect ratios (also known as Cinemascope). The HD290 features built in scaling support to allow these images to be viewed at the highest possible resolution (30% or more higher resolution than a 720p plasma or direct view lcd) called anamorphic (requires anamorphic lens, available separately). We recommend the Panamorph brand of anamorphic lens. Click here to go to the Panamorph web site.
