VC100sp Silent Start™ Stereo Volume Control with POWERMATCH™ ![]()
For more than 20 years Knoll has been the world leader in premium sound quality volume controls and stereo interfaces. The VC100sp continues the tradition by providing the best balance of high-power handling capacity, V-pad Transformer-Free™ sound quality and installation ease for stereo systems, home theater, multi-room custom installation and commercial applications. The VC100sp Silent Start™ Transformer-Free™ volume control features silent logic. When the stereo receiver is first turned on, the speakers controlled by the VC100sp volume control remain silent (a red colored LED glows on the VC100sp). Push the VC100sp button, the LED glows green and the sound is on in this room only. The VC100sp prevents stereo sound in rooms (bedrooms, sitting rooms, etc.) with volume controls left on from the last system use. VC100sp's can be mixed and matched with conventional volume controls in any installation. The patent pending VC100sp design has a smooth 12 position action and includes our unique POWERMATCH topology. POWERMATCH allows from two up to 24* volume controls (with POWERMATCH) to be safely connected to a single stereo receiver without the need for an expensive interface. Receivers with 4 ohm capability can be connected to six POWERMATCH volume controls and stereo speakers. POWERMATCH does not require that a shunt be moved and is completely automatic. The VC100sp 24-hour power rating is 100 watts per channel (350 watt peak). The VC100sp V-pad design does not generate heat like a transformer or L-pad that can dissipate large amounts of power in low and off positions creating early failures, wall damage or even a fire hazard. Nor is there any sonic degradation at low operating levels. Instead the VC100sp presents the listener with a full frequency response and original dynamic range at all volume positions and power levels. The stereo signal passes to the speakers without the compression effect associated with all transformer volume controls. Knoll V-pad Transformer-Free™ technology is the best and most reliable solution for new construction, renovations and upgrades of existing stereo systems. Fig 1. Volume Control Frequency Response With identical paralleled inputs and 8 ohm output loads, the -11 dB attenuation output frequency response of a Knoll Transformer-Free™ versus a top-of-the-line major brand autoformer volume control is shown.
Specifications:
Maximum Number of VC100sp's per Amplifier:
Wire Requirements: Speaker wire for the VC100sp should be copper, minimum 16 gauge. Runs longer than 33' (10 m) should be minimum 14 gauge wire. Two wire pairs (left and right) are run from the stereo amplifier, receiver or stereo interface to the VC100sp volume control, then one wire pair continues to each speaker. When "pre-wiring", leave an extra 3' (1 m) at each end to allow easy component installation. All wires for the VC100sp can be looped or daisy chained from room to room if desired. A single wire pair of 24-12 gauge wire has to be run from
the stereo receiver location to each VC100sp location. This wire (but
not the speaker wire) can be daisy chained from VC100sp to other VC100sp's
located through the home. A single 12 volt power supply (such as the PS1202)
needs to be located at the stereo receiver and plugged into the receivers
switched outlet. |
